1.2. Understanding Events

This document provides a listing of the system events that can be generated by a SpinServer® system running SpinFS® 2.5. Each system event includes a descriptive message. Causes and troubleshooting actions are listed where appropriate. The events are organized by software module.

See the SpinFS 2.5 Administration Guide for more information on events.

1.1. Viewing System Events

To view system events, use the event log show command in the CLI or the Event → SpinServer Log node in the GUI.

1.2. Understanding Events

Each system event consists of an event number, a time stamp, the severity of the event, the software module that issued the event, and a text message, as shown in the following example:

62070 08/10/2004 1:00 PM informational fcddriver Host loop id for channel 2 set to 4

In this example, 62070 is the event number; 08/10/2004 1:00 PM is the time stamp; informational is the severity; fcddriver is the originating software module; and Host loop id for channel 2 set to 4 is the message.

If you cannot determine the cause of a problem from the system messages, contact Network Appliance Technical Support.

1.2.1. Event Catalog Information

Each event in the event catalog includes the following information:

  • Module: The source of the event, such as syslog, raid, spinaccess, etc.

  • Index: The event's index number in the event catalog

  • Severity: The severity level of the event

  • Message: The descriptive message associated with the event

1.2.2. Severity Levels

The severity levels for events are defined as follows, in order of decreasing urgency:

  • emergency: The SpinServer system is unusable.

  • alert: Action must be taken immediately.

  • critical: A critical condition occurred.

  • error: An error condition occurred.

  • warning: A warning condition occurred.

  • notice: A normal but significant condition occurred.

  • informational: Information about normal operations was generated.

  • debug: A debug-level message was generated.
